Get Your Garden Ready for Winter

When we reach the final few months of the year and winter sets in, it may be time to start thinking about how to protect the furniture in your garden from the harsh conditions that are seen in the winter. The winter rain and wind are extremely likely to damage wooden garden furniture and should therefore be treated appropriately. Metal barbeques are less susceptible to damage but the complex connections will often become weather and render the griller unusable if not properly cared for.

The cheapest way to protect wooden tables and chairs in the garden through the winter months is to give them a layer of protective paint. This will strengthen the woods surface and avoid the wood from rotting and chipping. To make the furniture absolutely secure, you could also purchase the protective covering that fits completely over the furniture piece. This will stop the effect of all weathering but does come at a price.

For winter protection of barbeques, a full cover is extremely highly recommended as the connection parts are vulnerable to corrosion and rusting away which will effectively make the pipelines unusable. The main metal frame of a barbeque will weather fairly well if left out to battle it alone against the weather with the only affect likely to be slight staining. It is important that the barbeque is cleaned thoroughly before it is stored away under a protective cover to avoid the build up of mould and mildew which will also attract animals and creepy crawlies that may decide to live inside your barbeque for the winter and give you a nasty shock when you open it.
